The Temple Owls brought their shooting game to life in an impressive win over the Miami (OH) RedHawks, making their record (7-2)(0-0)-- best in several years.
Temple's only deficit was in the first few minutes in the game, with the RedHawks leading 2-0. From then on, senior guard Luis Guzman led the Owls to a dominant shooting display.
Here are Temple's leading performers:
Lavoy Allen (15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists)
Luis Guzman (12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists)
Juan Fernandez (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists)
Ryan Brooks (9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists)
Craig Williams (6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal)
As mentioned, the Temple Owls played arguably their most productive offense of the season. As a team, The Owls shot an impressive 45%, along with 48% from beyond the arc. A large portion of this excellent shooting comes from four of the five starting players.
Luis Guzman got the ball rolling for Temple when he hit three straight three pointers. Following that, the defense caused a number of problems for the RedHawks, who went 13 straight minutes without a basket. At one point, Temple found themselves leading with by a comfortable margin of 30-6. After the first half, the Owls did not stop there.
Guards Ryan Brooks and Juan Fernandez complimented Temple's backcourt with a combined 19 points, along with 6 assists. Inside the paint, forward Lavoy Allen led all Owl scorers with 15 points and 7 boards.
On the opposite side of things, Temple's foul shooting was absolutely horrendous. The team shot 27% from the line, with five of those coming from freshman forward Rahlir Jefferson.
Another positive note is that Fran Dunphy's rotation returns to normal, as Micheal Eric reentered the starting lineup for Tuesday night's game. The 6'11" center was a missed presence, as rebounding on both sides of the ball was certainly affected.
Temple's record improves to (7-2)(0-0), and the Owls will head back home to take on crosstown rival Villanova in Big Five basketball.
Miami (OH)'s record drops to (2-6)(0-0) and the RedHawks will travel out on the road to play Cincinnati.
