Now that 2008-9 basketball is out of season, we can start to get into some Temple Football talk (we don't want to steal the spotlight from Papreps, THE Temple Football Blogger)
Today, well yesterday, was Temple's annual Cherry and White Day, where Owls fans had the opportunity to see the upcoming year's team for the first time in a scrimmage.
Here's our video footage of this year's Cherry and White game. Later on, we'll post some photos from McGonigle Hall, and the Owls Alumni Basketball game. (a nice picture of the 1938 National Invitation Tournament Championship Tropy!)
Here's our first look at the 2009 Temple Football Team:
Not too long ago, the sports world was given the sad news that "Philadelphia has lost it's Voice".
At 1:20 pm, doctors at the George Washington Medical Center pronounced Harry Kalas dead, at age 73- he was found earlier in the broadcasting booth passed out.
Though this is not a Phillies blog, it seemed really appropriate that as a Philadelphia sports fan our condolences are sent out to the Kalas family.
Harry will be missed by many, especially those fans who were around during his long tenure as the Phillies broadcaster.
Harry Kalas will not be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the eyes of Philadelphia Sports.
As a tribute to the Big 5, we've put together our "1st and 2nd Teams" to recognize the best players in the city. Here's a look at who made this year's teams:

In our last few posts, we've taken the time to evaluate this past Temple basketball season. We've reviewed the play of specific players and impact of incoming players, but we haven't exactly taken the time to look at the coach.
Today we'll break down coach Fran Dunphy's tenure at Temple, and how these three years have gone.
Season 1; (12-18) Season 2: (21-13) Season 3: (22-12)
Between Seasons 1 and 2, there has been obvious improvement in production. Not only did it include a winning record, but also an Atlantic 10 Conference Title/NCAA Tournament Bid. Unfortunately, though, the Owls fell to Michigan State (this year a Final Four participant) in the first round.
Seasons 1 and 2 featured the integration of a new coach, and a new legacy. After the departure of Hall of Fame Coach John Chaney, Owls fans did not exactly know what they were in for.
Season 2: Atlantic 10 Champions/NCAA Tournament Bid Season 3: Atlantic 10 Champions/NCAA Tournament Bid
The expectations were now beginning to form. With the loss of guard Mark Tyndale, the leadership role was placed on the shoulders Dionte Christmas. In both years, Christmas claimed the conference scoring titles, and was not about to let anyone stop him from a "three-peat".
Year three came around, and the Owls had no standards lower than repeating their title. This year presented three seniors in Sergio Olmos, Semaj Inge, and Dionte Christmas. The team successfully pulled a late season run to get back to the Big Dance.

Temple fans are eager and awaiting the alterations that will be made this off-season. As we begin a long and interesting journey to next year, The Owl's Nest will continue to keep you updated on the Temple Men's Basketball team.
